Susan MacLean brings over three decades of immigration law practice to Zulkie Partners, with clients spanning every industry and scale, from small businesses to Fortune 500 companies. Her pre-law career in healthcare customer service taught her an enduring lesson: clarity and responsiveness transform anxiety into confidence.
Susan has developed concentrated expertise in PERM cases (including special handling situations), the full range of nonimmigrant visas, EB-1A/B petitions, and I-9 compliance audits. Her approach blends process rigor with relationship focus. She organizes work systematically but serves people attentively. She provides educational context first, then delivers fact-based recommendations. Clients tell her they appreciate her quick responses that distill complexity into actionable guidance.
Susan is an active member of the American Immigration Lawyers’ Association (AILA), speaking at conferences and contributing to committees that shape the profession. She has been an Adjunct Professor at IIT Chicago – Kent College of Law, where she co-taught a course on Family and Employment-Based Immigration Practice, and has spoken on many Continuing Legal Education panels on a variety of business immigration topics in her 30-year career.
While the international dimension initially drew Susan to immigration law, what continues to sustain her is simpler: the privilege of helping people in immediate, tangible ways every day. Outside of work, Susan finds creative fulfillment through quilting and proudly volunteers with Erie Neighborhood House as a legal screener for their clients at citizenship workshops.
